Man kann Platonische Körper auf 1001 Arten im Raum plazieren; zwei dieser Arten liegen besonders nahe:

(A)      Der Körper balanciert auf einer seiner Ecken (oder ist so aufgehängt, dass die Ecke nach unten zeigt).

(B)       Der Körper liegt auf einer seiner Flächen.

Laut Kepler sind nicht beide Varianten gleich schön; bei manchen Körpern beleidigt (A) das Auge, bei anderen Körpern (B). Probieren wir’s aus, indem wir ästhetische Haltungsnoten vergeben.

Hierbei geht es nicht darum, ob die gezeigten Abbildungen ästhetisch gelungen sind oder nicht; sie dienen nur dazu, dass Sie sich die Körper in der fraglichen Position vorstellen können, vor dem geistigen Auge sozusagen: Welche der beiden Ausrichtungen ist schöner?

Platonic solids can be placed in space in countless ways — two of them are especially common.

(A) The solid balances on one of its tips (or is suspended so that the corner points downward).

(B) The solid rests on one of its faces.

According to Kepler, these two variants are not equally beautiful; for some solids, (A) offends the eye, while for others, (B) does. Let’s test this by assigning aesthetic posture ratings.

This is not about whether the depicted images are aesthetically successful or not; they are only meant to help you imagine the solids in the respective position, so to speak, in your mind’s eye: Which of the two orientations is more beautiful?
